Emotional Labor
Emotional labor may or may not be a new term for you.
Although it's recently taken on a different meaning, it's original intention is when we regulate or suppress our emotions at our job. Not as a choice we necessarily make but instead as an expectation coming as rules or regulations being put on us to appease the "customer" (client, general public, contractor, etc).

Emotional Labor
Emotional labor refers to employees having to suppress or discount their feelings at work in order to appease others. This may be around veterinary clients, someone surrendering a pet at your shelter, or even in a corporate setting where rules or guidelines have been put into place about what is acceptable and not acceptable despite how the other person may be behaving.
